Troubleshooting the Microsoft CRM Relationship Feature

Those who have used the relationship features within Dynamics CRM software have discovered that merging records with relationships, particularly account records, will sometimes produce generic errors. This tends to be a consistent error for those who have the error at all. This is a little known problem and apparently not widely advertised. A recent update rollup (Update Rollup 9) has addressed this and without any fanfare as this repair is not featured in the list of repaired items. This does not repair existing record relationships but only prevents further issues from occurring for new relationships that are created post update rollup installation.

If you have encountered this error and have pushed it aside for the moment, know that Microsoft has a somewhat technical workaround to clean up the data and allow account records to merge once again.

Overall, I would recommend that update rollup 9.0 be added to your list of to-dos sooner rather than later.
